Few know and understand exactly what has been occurring south of the border over the past seven years, during which time a couple of Harvard alumni have been at the helm of the Mexican government. Mexico has been elevated from a Third World Country to a Newly Industrialized Country, the tradition of corruption is being eradicated, the peso has held steady with the US dollar, real estate values have almost tripled in resort destinations, and the Mexican stock market has risen 300%. During the same time period, property values throughout the central part of the US rose by about 40% and the S&P 500, which fairly well represents the US stock market, climbed by a mere 10%. Puerto Vallarta is currently experiencing an exponential growth in population as this resort destination economy is booming. There is virtually full employment in Vallarta resulting in increased wages, cost of materials, and land values. This trend is expected to continue for at least another decade and therefore, its still not too late for retirees or about-to-be-retirees that think of themselves as savvy investors, to put their dead money to work for them by considering investments and retirement in Paradise.

Of the tens of billions of dollars in unclaimed property in the United States, the state of Ohio is one of the few states to be home to more than a billion of it. According to the OH Dept. of Commerce’s Division of Unclaimed Funds, that $1 Billion is spread out across 3.5 million different accounts. While thousands of these accounts are returned to their rightful owners, to the tune of tens of millions of dollars, the state takes in another 200,000 accounts annually, worth many more millions.
